Dale Garage

I AM writing in response to your recent article about the delayed re-opening of the Esso garage, in Hexham (Courant, May 4).
After over 30 years of commitment to the Tynedale community, and indeed the Hexham Courant, it is regrettable that your publication seems unwilling to show support to one of its local businesses which has had to adapt quickly to the sudden closure of the Esso garage.
It has been down to the experience and dedication of our forecourt team that we have ensured a continuous supply to our customers despite some difficult trading conditions including the recent Government led panic buying.
We have taken on additional staff to minimise waiting time for customers using our facilities and feel we have done our utmost to minimise the disruption to the residents of Tynedale by the closure of the Esso garage.
You, however, only report that Dale Garage has enjoyed a ‘bonanza’, being the only filling station in Hexham.
The use of the word ‘bonanza’ we consider to be inflammatory, and gives your readers the impression that we are taking advantage of the situation in order to make more profit.
This we refute completely and indeed, as our customers will have noticed just in the last few weeks alone, we have led the way in passing on changes in the cost of fuel to our customers.
RACHEL ORD,
Director
Dale Garage,
Hexham.
