Horden bring end to Town’s fine run

PRUDHOE’S recent good run came to an end against SkillTraining Northern League Division Two high flyers Horden.

Prudhoe were put on the back foot from their kick-off and they had to defend in numbers to keep out the rampant home side.
When Clark headed on a cross in the sixth minute Devine volleyed his shot wide.
Having withstood the pressure Prudhoe won their first corner in the 15th minute.
Although they were getting into the game Prudhoe were still under pressure and Atkinson’s long high cross bounced on top of the bar and over.
Horden took the lead in the 23rd minute when Steven Little and Prudhoe goalkeeper Aiden Ames got mixed up and Clark was on hand to hit the ball into the open goal from close in.
When Atkinson hit an angled shot Ames did well diving out to get a hand on the ball.
It fell to Devine who shot over the bar.
When Ben Haddock’s through pass was hit back weakly by a defender home goalkeeper Winter was sharp to come out and kick clear as Chris Baxter closed in.
On 35 minutes while Ames was lining up his defensive wall a quick free-kick was taken but the goalkeeper scrambled across to save.
Andrew Brown then kept a cool head under pressure to control then clear from the goalmouth.
Horden started the second half attacking but again good defending kept them out.
A right wing corner was headed on for Robinson to head over the bar.
On the hour another long right wing cross reached Atkinson beyond the far post.
Clark then cracked a shot off the face of the bar.
A penalty was given in the 70th minute when Atkinson stumbled over a trailing leg.
Defender Ian Clark hit his low penalty into the corner of the net to put Horden two up.
Robinson then got onto a through pass, and hit a low shot with the outside of his boot, but Ames got down and across to save.
In a late rally, substitute Gav Wood’s first time shot was held under the bar by Winter.
Although Prudhoe were well beaten by a good team they defended well.
