The whole event was sponsored by BNS Telecom.
It was a dry but blustery evening and the PYCFC Ladies had been looking forward to this match for several months.
Their opponents were TSV DUWO 08 Ladies team from Hamburg, Germany.
Both managers had been in contact via e-mail and telephone, organising this event and Prudhoe manager Nigel Foster wanted to make the event a success and make the visitors feel welcome.
TSV DUWO 08 are on their third visit to England and this year chose the North-East for their tour.
Hoping for a good turnout of supporters, the teams gathered at the high school and once everyone was organised, the teams walked on to the pitch with the officials to ‘meet and greet’.
The match kicked off and was end to end, fiercely fought in midfield. However, within 20 minutes, the hosts were 2-0 down!
With visions of a whitewash, the supporters braced themselves for what they thought was going to be a ‘big’ score.
However, the Prudhoe ladies stuck to their game and by half time managed to pull the score line back to 2-2 thanks to two goals from Megan Watson.
The teams battled hard, with the German girls often coming off worst in the challenges.
In the second half, there was a breakthrough after five minutes and Megan scored again making it 3-2.
The Prudhoe lasses kept their heads and constantly took the game to the German girls, with Carlie Blackburn working hard up front. Kayleigh Arkless joined the midfield for the last 15-20 minutes and kept the momentum going with the midfield tussles!
The last 10 minutes saw a rejuvenated German side with almost constant pressure on the Prudhoe defence and Becca Foster pulled off some fantastic saves that could have earned her the player of the match award to keep the score at 3-2 at the final whistle.
An after match buffet and presentation was organised to take place at the Adam and Eve, in Low Prudhoe.
The staff from BNS Telecom presented the Player of the Match awards to Megan Watson for Prudhoe for her three goals and to Gesche Israel for TSV DUWO 08 for her battle up front.
The PYCFC Ladies team have been invited to play in Germany next year and are hoping to raise enough funds to off set the cost for the girls as much as possible, so the fund raising starts again!
