Olympic Torch route mapped out for Tynedale

TYNEDALE is bracing itself for a once in a lifetime visit of the Olympic Torch as the route was officially confirmed on Monday.

Olympic Torch

On June 16, the torch for the 2012 London Olympics will pass through Prudhoe, Stocksfield, Hexham and Riding Mill as it tours the region.

The identities of local people chosen to carry the flame, both in Tynedale and other parts of the North-East, have also been announced.

Included on the list is Humshaugh community stalwart Dick Moules, 12-year-old Wylam resident Sam Smith, Corbridge volleyball coach Steve Betts and Allenheads teenager Jess Colborn who showed great determination to walk again after suffering from a stroke.

For full details, see the Hexham Courant later this week.
